Garam Masala

Garam Masala is the most famous of Northern Indian spice blends. There are as many ways to prepare this essential seasoning as there are cooks – ours is blended using a traditional Indian family recipe.

Cooking with the spices of northern India is an experience that every chef should try!


2 bay leaves

¼ cup cumin seeds

1 cinnamon stick, broken

1/3 cup coriander seeds

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon green cardamon pods

1 tablespoon black peppercorns

1 whole dried red chile

2 teaspoons whole cloves

1/8 teaspoon ground mace



Combine the bay leaves, cumin, cinnamon, cardamon, peppercorns, cloves and red chile in a frying pan. Toast over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the cumin turns brown, 5 minutes. Grind to a powder, stir in the nutmeg and mace.

Store in an airtight container up to 6 months.
